High levels of the onion plant bug caused obvious leaf damage for the first time on record in North Texas. Onions were transplanted from the greenhouse to the field during 20-22 Feb. ’84. Plants were hand planted in 2 rows, 10 inches apart on 40 inch beds with a 3 inch in-row spacing. The plots were 250 ft long by 25 ft wide with 4 replications arranged in a randomized block design. The insecticide was applied by a 2-nozzle/row sprayer that delivered 36 gal/acre at 40 psi. The treatment was applied 13 Apr and onion plant bug counts were taken 13 Apr (pretreatment), 16, 19, 24 Apr and on the 4 and 22 May.
