Evaluation of Imidan 50Wp for Control of Imported Fire Ants, 1983

Imidan 50WP was evaluated for control of imported fire ants (IFA) in a cattle pasture located in Santee, South Carolina. Two blocks were set up along 1 fence in the field. In the first block, four areas were delineated, while only 3 areas comprised the second block. Each area contained 5 active IFA mounds. One of 4 treatments was randomly assigned to each area in block 1: Imidan 50WP (0.1%, 0.5% and 1.0%) and a control drench of water. In block 2, only 3 treatments were used: Imidan 50WP (0.1% and 5%) and water.Treatments were applied as mound drenches. Mounds 12 inches or less in diameter received 1 gal of material, while those 12 inches or greater were treated with 2 gal. Mounds were uncapped with a shovel and the solution was poured down the center of the mound. Control was assessed based on IFA activity, with an active mound being 1 that exhibited ants coming to the surface when the mound was slightly probed with a thin metal wire.
