Seven insecticides were evaluated for fall armyworm (FAW) control on peanuts near Palmyra in northern NC. Seed were planted in early May into Norfolk fine sandy loam soil on 36-inch rows. Plots were 4 rows by 40 ft arranged in a randomized complete block design with 3 replications. A backpack sprayer calibrated to deliver 8 gal H2O acre at 50 psi and 4 mph with one TX-8 nozzle per row was used for the low volume treatments; 3 TX-6 nozzles per row delivering a total 18 gal/acre were employed for the high volume treatments over each row. A pretreatment FAW count yielded 12 larvae/row ft. Treatments were made on 30 Aug. Live FAW larvae were sampled from 3 row ft from each plot on 4 Sep.
