The Directorate General of Health Services in Bangladesh is very much engaged in developing reliable and up-to-date automated health information systems. The SHARE project, consisting of icddr, b and partners developed data visualisation tools (dashboards) for managers and trained hundreds of managers in actual use of those dashboards e.g. in control of epidemics, monitoring of vaccination coverage, stock management of contraceptives. The Director General of Health Services has bi-monthly teleconferences with Regional managers, where trends in health service delivery are analysed. Results The combination of development of tools for visualisation of health services information, training in using those tools and actual discussion about the actual information in teleconferences caused a break-through in the data-for-decision making approach in Bangladesh.
