ROC-analysis defined the threshold of level of sucralose in the urine as a marker of an active phase of inflammation in UC, 1314 nmol/l, we identified sensitivity of 64%, specificity of 94%, and AUC –0.79. To distinguish the exacerbation and remission of UC, the level of sucralose also had high values: sensitivity −86%, specificity −84%, and AUC −0.93 at a threshold value of 587 nmol/l. Fecal lipocalin 2 was significantly higher in patients with active UC (4668 [1298; 7792] ng/ml) compared with healthy controls [181 [169; 720] ng/ml) (p < 0.001). To determine the presence of UC, the sensitivity of lipocalin 2 was 78%, the specificity was 93%, and the AUC was 0.93 at a threshold value of 1132 ng/ ml. The diagnostic value of fecal lipocalin 2 as a marker of exacerbation of UC relative to remission of the disease showed other result: sensitivity 78% and specificity of 40% and AUC of 0.63 at a threshold value of 1132 ng/ml. Conclusions: Patients with active UC had an increased level of sucralose in urine, which had high specificity both for detecting the presence of UC and for determining exacerbation. Fecal lipocalin 2 had high sensitivity and specificity for screening the disease.
