Treatments were evaluated on a 2-year stand during the 1st alfalfa cutting period at the Southern Illinois University, Belleville Research Center. Plots were 40 X 50 ft with 4 replications of treatments in a RCB design. Efficacy of the pyrethroid insecticides Warrior 1 EC, Mustang 1.5 EW, and Baythroid 2 EC was compared with the commonly used insecticide Furadan 4°F and 2 experimental compounds. Treatments were applied 24 Apr with a tractor-mounted sprayer delivering 15.7 gpa at 25 psi and 2.5 mph through a 20-ft boom equipped with flat-fan nozzles (TeeJet 8002 VS) spaced 20 inches apart. Pre-treatment sweeps averaged 0.72, 3rd to 4th instar larvae per sweep.
