Sweet-potatoes were transplanted on 20 Jun at the Eastern Shore Agricultural Research and Extension Center, Painter, VA. Each plot consisted of 3 rows 20 ft long with 3 ft between row spacing. An untreated guard row separated each plot from its neighbor. Treatments were replicated 6 times in a RCB. On 7 Jun, all of the plots except the check were treated with Mocap 6EC at 6 lb (AI)/acre broadcast and incorporated. This was to control the overwintering generations of the soil insects. The foliar sprays were applied on 22 and 30 Jul and 5 and 15 Aug, after click beetles (adult form of wireworms) were detected in the black light trap operated at Painter. Both the Mocap broadcast sprays and the foliar sprays were applied with a backpack sprayer using 6 flat fan nozzles/3 row plot and delivering 21 gal water/acre at 40 psi. On 29 Jul, (root swell), the Dyfonate and Diazinon granular treatments were broadcast over the appropriate plots using a hand-held shaker.
