Soybean Looper and Beet Armyworm Control on Soybean in Louisiana, 1995

The efficacy of selected insecticides for control of soybean looper (SBL) and beet armyworm (BAW) was determined in 3 small plot insecticide trials conducted at the Northeast Research Station near St. Joseph, LA (Tensas Parish). Treatments were applied to ‘Deltapine 105’ soybeans in the R5 growth stage using a high clearance, compressed air sprayer calibrated to deliver 10 gpa through TX12 hollow cone nozzles (2/row) at 45 psi. Plots were 50 ft long by 4 rows (40 inch row spacing) and were arranged in a RCBD with 4 replications. Treatments were applied on 23, 24, and 29 Aug in Tests I, II, and III, respectively. One 25-sweep sample was taken from each plot with a standard 15 inch diameter sweep net at 2, 5, and 7 DAT in Test I; 2, 5, and 8 DAT in Test II; and 2 and 8 DAT in Test III. No rainfall occurred during Test I and II; a trace amount occurred on 4 Sep during Test III. The data were analyzed by ANOVA and treatment means separated by DMRT.
