21 Geographic Range. Anoplophora glabripennis (Motschulsky) (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae), native to China (Wu and Jiang 1998) and the Korean peninsula (Peng and Liu, 1992, Lingafelter and Hoebeke 2002, Williams et al. 2004), is among the recent nonindigenous invasive species to North America and Europe. Locations of the known infestations of A. glabripennis in North America (year found) include New York City and Long Island, NY (1996), Chicago, IL (1998), Jersey City, NJ (2002), Toronto, Canada (2003), Carteret, NJ (2004), Linden, NJ (2006), and Prall Island and Staten Island, NY (2007). In addition, adult A. glabripennis were discovered in Sacramento, CA (June 2005), thereby putting at risk various tree species in the western United States. Locations of the known infestations of A. glabripennis in Europe (year found) include Austria: Braunau The National Plant Diagnostic Network (NPDN) was formed in part as a response to the events of 9/11/2001. The focus includes natural or accidental introduction of pests and pathogens, along with intentional introduction. Initial efforts of the NPDN focused on plant pathology, but now include entomology. Its goal is to provide proper equipment and training for labs at State Land Grant Universities to prepare for testing some of the USDA’s select agents of concern. It has also focused on building an IT network for informational flow of data. The NPDN is concerned with all exotic pest introductions that could influence agriculture, including arthropods, nematodes, weeds, and mollusks (in addition to plant pathogens).
