The reference to [Kl] in the proof of Theorem A should be replaced by [K, S] and [R]; the latter papers combine to give a correct proof for the result stated in [Kl]. The proof of Theorem A as given works for n ¥= 4. The case n = 4 follows from n = 5 by applying Theorem A to M X R (equipped with action ¡i(g;[m, /]) = [p(g,m),t]. The hypotheses of Theorem C should include the following: (a) Mn + 1 is a closed manifold. (b) If G = Zm in part (1) or Gm r in part (2), then G acts trivially on w,(A/). These hypotheses are used in the proof. We thank D. Ruberman for pointing out the insufficiency and inaccuracy of reference [Kl], and A.
