The article provides an overview of relevant phytotechnologies for improving water resources and wastewater, and indicates the regulatory framework for the best available technologies. Attention is paid to the significance of the natural processes of biodegradation of water and wastewater pollution, the most studied plants and trees used for the decontamination of pollution in water and soils are highlighted. The emphasis is placed on the correct selection of plants for the effect of reducing the toxic effects of individual or total pollutants, as well as phytostimulation of the local soil microflora by plants to intensify the processes of self-cleaning of polluted environments. The experience of studying the work of plants in various climatic conditions, including sharp continental ones, helps to expand the capabilities of this method and solve problems of improving reservoirs and territories at a minimum cost.
