Recently, it has been proven that manganese from inhaledparticles of manganese compounds can accumulate in the internalorgans of laboratory animals. Nevertheless, there were only afew researches dealing with changes in body morphology inducedby inhalation of these particles, even though results of somestudies indicate existence of such changes. The aim of ourresearch was to assess the effect of inhaled manganese oxidesnanoparticles on weight of internal organs. For this purpose along-term inhalation experiment on laboratory mice wasperformed, during which the mice were exposed to MnO. Mn2O3nanoparticles in concentration 2 x 10(6) particles/cm(3) for 17weeks, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Manganese oxidesnanoparticles were synthesized continuously via aerosol routein a hot wall tube flow reactor using thermal decomposition ofmetal organic precursor manganese(II) acetylacetonate in theflow tube reactor at temperature 750 degrees C in the presenceof 30 vol% of oxygen. It was proven that inhaled nanoparticlescan influence the weight of internal organs of mice. Moreover,it was discovered that the resulting change in weight ofselected organs is disproportional. The mice from theexperimental group had statistically significantly lighterkidneys, liver and spleen and heavier pancreas compared to themice from the control group.

Organ weight changes in mice after long-term inhalation exposure to manganese oxides nanoparticles
