The Dark Matter part of the universe presumably consists of WIMPs (WeaklyInteracting Massive Particles). The ArDM project aims at measuring signalsinduced by WIMPs in a liquid argon detector. A 1-ton prototype is currentlydeveloped with the goal of demonstrating the feasibility of such a directdetection experiment with large target mass. The technical design of thedetector aims at ind ependently measuring the scintillation light and theionization charge originating from an interaction of a WIMP with an argonnucleus.
