We investigate within a coarse-grained model the conditions leading to theappearance of Fano resonances or anti-resonances in the conductance spectrum ofa generic molecular junction with a side group (T-junction). By introducing asimple graphical representation (parabolic diagram), we can easily visualizethe relation between the different electronic parameters determining theregimes where Fano resonances or anti-resonances in the low-energy conductancespectrum can be expected. The results obtained within the coarse-grained modelare validated using density-functional based quantum transport calculations inrealistic T-shaped molecular junctions.
