The HERMES experiment has measured the transverse polarization of Lambda and Lambda-bar hyperons produced inclusively at a positron beam energy of 27.6 GeV in quasi-real photon interactions with various nuclear targets in a wide range of atomic numbers A (1H, 2H, 3He, 4He, N, Ne, Kr, and Xe). The transverse Lambda polarization was found to decrease with A and to be compatible with zero for the heaviest nuclei.
