We perform classical molecular dynamics simulation to investigate themechanisms underpinning the unresolved, experimentally-observedtemperature-dependent scaling transition in the quality factors of graphenenanomechanical resonators (GNMR). Our simulations reveal that the mechanismunderlying this temperature scaling phenomenon is the out-of-plane migration ofadsorbates on GNMRs. Specifically, the migrating adsorbate undergoes frequentcollisions with the GNMR, which strongly influences the resulting mechanicaloscillation, and thus the quality factors. We also predict a discontinuoustransition in the quality factor at a lower critical temperature, which resultsfrom the in-plane migration of the adsorbate. Overall, our work clearlydemonstrates the strong effect of adsorbate migration on the quality factors ofGNMRs.
