In this paper we discuss the energy interaction between gravitational wavesand laser interferom- eter gravitational wave detectors. We show that thewidely held view that the laser interferometer gravitational wave detectorabsorbs no energy from gravitational waves is only valid under theapproximation of a frequency-independent optomechanical coupling strength and apump laser without detuning with respect to the resonance of theinterferometer. For a strongly detuned interferometer, the optical-dampingdynamics dissipates gravitational wave energy through the interaction betweenthe test masses and the optical field. For a non-detuned interferometer, thefrequency-dependence of the optomechanical coupling strength causes a tinyenergy dissipation, which is proved to be equivalent to the Doppler frictionraised by Braginsky et.al.
