In past one decade, rapid investment casting (RIC) has been established as commercial process for implant fabrication in batch production. But hitherto little has been reported on mathematical modelling for surface hardness of implant fabricated with RIC. This research work highlighted the procedure for fabrication of customised SS-316L-based hip implants (for batch production) by utilising the route of RIC. Further in this paper, investigations have been performed on the hardness of the fabricated implants by varying the two critical investment casting (IC) process parameters namely drying time (primary coat) and layer numbers (thickness of mould). Further for process capability analysis, the C p  and C pk  values have been calculated. The observed value of C p  and C pk  greater than 1.33 ensures that process is statistically controlled. Finally, the mathematical model developed for hardness by using the Buckingham’s Pi-theorem (dimensionless analysis) was validated and found to be suitable for predicting the output response.
