This research relates to assessing the efficiency of hospitals and indicates how to improve their operations in terms of productivity and efficiency. Data from 56 hospitals in the region were used to measure the specialization of hospitals using the Information Theory Index. Hospital efficiency was rated with a quantitative efficiency indicator using the Data Envelopment Analysis method. Applying this method allowed a set of scenarios to be developed for restructuring the regional inpatient healthcare system. Based on their efficiency indicators, 19 hospitals could undergo restructuring according to the scenarios developed. The efficiency of hospitals in the region can be improved using the scenarios developed. Healthcare management in the region has the additional opportunity to optimize investment in hospital resources by introducing advanced methods for improving the productivity of medical staff.
