A facile and green route for the synthesis of silver nanoparticles stabilizing by polymer/graphene oxide (AgNPs/polymer/GO) and their catalytic and antibacterial activity were presented. Furan functional poly(styrene- alt -maleic anhydride) (PSMF) was synthesized by the free radical polymerization reaction following the ring-opening of the anhydride by the furfuryl amine. The PSMF polymer was grafted on the surface of graphene oxide to afford the polymer/GO via Diels-Alder reaction under ultrasonication assistance in a non-catalytic aqueous solution. The AgNPs/PSMF/GO composites were obtained by the reduction of silver ion on the polymer/GO under UV light irradiation. The AgNPs/PSMF/GO hybrids were characterized by means of FTIR, XRD, UV-vis, and Raman spectroscopies. The catalytic activity of AgNPs/PSMF/GO was examined by the reduction of 4-nitrophenol. Interestingly, the  in vitro  assays toward  Escherichia coli  and  Staphylococcus aureus  bacteria showed a high antibacterial activity of the composites.
