Vaginismus is a condition, in which vaginal spasms occur preventing penetration during sexual intercourse. This single-center report aims to evaluate the demography of vaginismus and the efficacy of vaginismus therapy given by the women health clinic. This study was conducted to determine the demographic characteristics of vaginismus patients came to women health clinic between 2010 and 2019. The patients who participated in this prospective study had vaginismus according to the criteria of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders Fifth Revision. Face-to-face interviews were conducted with the patients, and gynecologic examinations were given to them before and after the treatment, as well as at the three-month follow-ups. Cognitive behavioral sex therapies and medical hypnotherapy were used in the process. A total of 150 (31.77%) patients were classified as first degree, 174 (36.86%) as second degree, 120 (25.42%) as third degree, and 28 (5.93%) as fourth degree. While 25 (5.29%) patients were diagnosed as secondary vaginismus, 447 (94.71%) of them were primary vaginismus. After the treatment and at the three-month follow-up, it was reported that 472 (100%) women had had successful sexual intercourse. Stratifying the severity of vaginismus has been found to be of value in helping to determine the best course of treatment. The combined approach included cognitive and behavioral therapy, dilation exercises, hypnotherapy (if necessary), and post-procedure counseling. Support also has proven safe and effective in the treatment of vaginismus.
