We examined how and when multiple entry motivation influenced lived calling. Participants were 737 police cadets from Sichuan Province, China (female= 24.42%; sophomore= 65.0%; major in science= 32.7%). The participants completed surveys on entry motivation, perceived calling, lived calling, and organisational cultural identity scales. Following hierarchical regression and bootstrap analysis, the results indicated family expectation was positively associated with perceived calling, whereas college reputation, employment opportunity, and self-improvement negatively predicted perceived calling. Perceived calling played a mediating role in these relationships. Moreover, family expectation weakened the relationship between college reputation, employment opportunity, and self-improvement and perceived calling. Additionally, organisational cultural identity moderated the direct relationship between perceived and lived calling and the indirect effect. These findings revealed the importance of multiple motivations for perceiving career calling.
