Successful recycling of nylon 6,6-based plastic waste materials was performed by the synthesis of CuS nanoparticles through successive ionic layer adsorption and reaction method. The plastic waste was used in the preparation of the matrix for the synthesis of the CuS nanoparticles to get a new polymer nanocomposite with unique properties and to find effective utilisation for waste plastics. The obtained nanocomposite was characterised by various methods like scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction and UV–visible spectroscopy to get proof of the formation of nanoparticles within the polymer matrix and study the structure and properties of the obtained nanocomposite material. The obtained results confirm the formation of nanoparticles and give information about their average size. UV-vis. spectroscopy revealed a comparatively wide band gap for the obtained nanostructures which manifests their potential as an appropriate base material for photovoltaic device production.
