Four new kinds of corrugated metal dampers were designed to investigate the behavior of energy consumption. The experimental results show that the mild steel damper has a preferable seismic capability. In addition, the method of simulating weld failure is proposed through using the cohesive crack model, and the mild steel damper is analyzed from the views of weld failure. The recommended value of the minimum weld strength is 1.2 times more than the material strength of steel. Finally, this paper further proposes an optimization scheme to improve the plastic utilization efficiency of the energy dissipation plate.
