Impure contents of natural gas like Hydrogen Sulfide (H 2 S) and Carbon Dioxide (CO 2 ) should be removed in chemical plants before sending gas to downstream units. These highly corrosive chemicals can be separated by employing several treatment processes. Chemical solvent-based processes are a common method regarding their many positive features. While the choice of solvents for different processes largely depends on process needs, the usage of physical solvents and hybrid solvents has significantly grown in recent decades. The purpose of this paper is the feasibility study of altering the solvent from the chemical solvent of DiEthanolAmine (DEA) to the physical solvent of DimethylEtherPolyethyleneGlycol (DEPG) in a gas refinery situated in Ahvaz, Iran. Firstly, the plant was simulated using the real data gathered. Next, in order to evaluate the feasibility of changing the solvent type from DEA to DEPG, the standard configuration of the produced sweet gas was investigated. Comparing the results of the physical solvent process with the chemical one, it was observed although the overall current costs of the plant were slightly less, gross costs of the process was much higher. To mitigate this, a correction scheme was proposed and the performance of it was economically and technically evaluated.
