In this article, three-dimensional numerical modeling is conducted to describe heavy fuel oil gasification phenomena on the research scale entrained flow gasifier. The simulation is perceived particle distribution, pyrolysis, char, and gaseous phase gasification reactions. Different gasifying agents, equivalence ratio, and injection pattern of fuel and agent are considered to evaluate their impact on gasification performance features, such as syngas composition, gasification temperature, and efficiency. The obtained results show that increasing the equivalence ratio reduces syngas content (H 2 +CO). Nevertheless, the displacement of injection pattern of fuel and agent into the burner achieves a higher syngas yield. The simulation outcomes indicate that heavy fuel oil is an appropriate feedstock for gasification in a specific range of equivalence ratios. This numerical model approach enhances a proper understanding of heavy fuel oil gasification, and it applies to optimizing gasifier design.
