A novel BiVO 4  functionalized cotton fabric was prepared by in situ technology at room temperature. The X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) of BiVO 4  were applied to analyze its crystalline structure, morphology, chemical component. The photocatalytic activity of BiVO 4  was investigated by degradation of methylene blue (MB) solution. BiVO 4  functionalized cotton fabric was characterized by XRD, SEM, EDS, and ultraviolet-visible diffuse reflection spectroscopy (UV-vis DRS). Results showed that the prepared BiVO 4  had significant photocatalytic activity. BiVO 4  functionalized cotton fabric had a UPF value of 43.66, demonstrating excellent ultraviolet protection property. In addition, BiVO 4  functionalized cotton fabric possessed commendable self-cleaning performance.
