Precipitation particles evolution in ASME Grade 91 steel after 233,823 h of creep exposure at 600 °C was characterised after grain boundary energy classification in terms of misorientation angle (MOA): Low energy boundary (LEB) with MOA up to 15°, high energy boundary (HEB) with MOA from 15° to 45°, and medium energy boundary (MEB) with MOA from 45° to 63°. The number density of the Laves phase strongly depends on the boundary energy classification by MOA: the largest in the HEB, followed in order by the MEB and the LEB. The Z-phase particles is preferentially located in grain boundaries where at least one of adjacent boundaries is the HEB or the MEB. Even though the block boundaries belong to the MEB in terms of MOA, they are not the preferential site for the Z-phase due to their exceptionally small boundary energy.
