Acoustic radiation force optical coherence elastography (ARF-OCE) has been widely employed for elasticity imaging of ocular tissues, however, it has not been applied to detecting the biomechanical properties of the human cornea. In this paper, we performed the experiments on ex vivo human eyes by using ARF-OCE, where the 2D OCT structural images and elastic wave propagations from human corneas were achieved, and the resulting Young’s modulus agreed well with the results measured by other methods, indicating the feasibility and reliability of ARF-OCE. With the advantages of non-invasive measurement, high resolution, high sensitivity and real-time imaging, ARF-OCE could be an effective way to rebuild the cornea elasticity and may be applied in clinical ophthalmology in the future.
