Teredolaemus primigenius  sp. nov. represents the first occurrence of Teredidae in Eocene Baltic amber and is the first documented fossil record of the family. The described and illustrated species is also the first formally described West Palaearctic member of the genus, extending the temporal range of the group into the Eocene (48–34 Ma). The global distribution of the subfamily Teredinae, including the fossil record, is mapped, and a brief discussion on palaeohabitats and possible climatic preferences of the fossil species is provided.
