Misogyny as evoked in the mother-daughter relationship is presented here in the repudiation and debasement of the feminine sexual body. It is explored as it relates to phallic monism via the clinical case of Iphigeneia and the mythical Greek female character of the same name in Euripides’ trilogy. The unconscious loyalty and submission to the pregenital phallic mother (Sphinx) is suggested to constitute one reason for phallic monism. Women’s misogyny towards their own sexual bodies due to their unconscious loyalty and submission to the  Sphinx  is explored. This representation of the  Sphinx  (borrowed by Schaeffer, 2011) is evoked to stand for the harsh/primitive phallic maternal imago who does not allow her daughter’s independence and passing into the world of adulthood and genital sexuality.
