The most significant issue affecting balloon flower ( Platycodon grandiflorus ) in Vietnam’s mountainous provinces is stem and root rot disease. The purpose of this study was to identify the causal fungus  Fusarium solani  of balloon flower planted in Lao Cai province . F. solani’ s identity was confirmed through DNA sequencing and phylogenetic analyses based on ITS sequences. PDA was the most suitable medium for  F. solani  growth and development of the three semi-solid media tested (CA, PDA, and CDA). The optimal temperature and pH conditions for its growth ranged from 25-30 °C with a maximum growth rate of 25 °C and pH 5.5-7.0 with a maximum growth rate of 6.5. This is the first report of  F. solani  causing balloon flower stem and root rot in Vietnam.
