In the present research, zinc ferrite nanoparticles were synthesised using high-energy ball milling of initial ZnO and α-Fe 2 O 3  nanoparticles by the molar ratio of 1:1. Phase composition, photo-absorption ability, surface analysis, magnetic properties, and morphology of ZnFe 2 O 4  nanoparticles were studied by X-ray diffraction, UV–vis diffuse reflectance spectra, Fourier Transform Infrared (FT-IR), vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM), and field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), respectively, and methylene blue was used as a model of an organic pollutant for the evaluation of the photocatalytic activity of ZnFe 2 O 4 , ZnO, and α-Fe 2 O 3  nanoparticles. The results showed the higher photocatalytic activity of ZnFe 2 O 4  nanoparticles compared to both initial ZnO and α-Fe 2 O 3  nanoparticles under visible-light irradiation. VSM analysis showed the ferrimagnetic behaviour of ZnFe 2 O 4  nanoparticles.
