The re-assembly performance of the mating surfaces in interference fit was affected by the disassembly in the previous step due to the serious friction damage. The experimental platform was built to investigate the disassembly damage and bearing capacity of a shaft in an interference fit. The effects of the surface micro-textures with different shapes and densities on disassembly damage and bearing capacity of the shaft in an interference fit were analysed from the micromorphology, microstructure, and material properties. For the micromorphology, the effects were explained based on the bearing area curve. For the microstructure and material properties, the surface strength of micro-textured surface was enhanced due to the fine grain strengthening and dislocation strengthening. The surface hardness was improved due to the generation of martensite. The results showed that the circular micro-textured surface with 20% area density effectively reduced the disassembly damage and increased the bearing capacity of the shaft in an interference fit.
