Restoring the original script to bibliographic records in the catalog provides essential, expanded access to resources published in the original non-Latin script in addition to the required romanization. The University of California Los Angeles Library’s Resource Acquisitions &amp; Metadata Services unit and OCLC completed projects to provide Cyrillic variable MARC data paralleling the Romanized fields via automation. Excellent programming and language skills, clear and precise specification, scope, parameters, and communication ensure success for such a project. Also, initial correct systematic romanization in bibliographic records improves overall success in such an automated project.
