This paper has carried out a thermodynamic performance assessment of three parabolic solar cookers of the same aperture area with different geometries based on energy and exergy concepts. The paper evaluates and discusses the effect of various thermal parameters, such as variation in water temperature, the figure of merits, standard cooking power, energy and exergy output, and energy and exergy efficiency. The latent heat of evaporation was inspected. For the same energy input, the energy output of the conventional circular dish cooker varied between 184 and 1072 kJ, whereas it was between 234and 1122 kJ and 301– and 1139 kJ for the fabricated and segmented rectangular dish cooker. The average energy and exergy efficiency for selected cookers was 40%–48% and 2%–3%, respectively. The comparative analysis demonstrates that the performance of segmented solar cooker with novel rectangular geometry was superior to conventional circular dish cooker due to improved thermal efficiency, heat duty and geometry. Thermodynamic performance assessment of conventional (SK-14) and novel geometrical (Prince-15) constructions has been investigated for data acquisition.The latent heat of evaporation was inspected.The energy efficiency of selected cookers is in the range of 28–87%, while the exergy efficiency changes in the range of 1.16–3.42%.The Prince-15 solar cooker has an excellent performance due to its more precise paraboloid rectangular geometry and better manufacturability.Exergy efficiency measures are more significant than energy efficiency measures.
