This research aims to see how decanol-neem oil methyl ester (NOME) diesel ternary fuel blends affect the combustion, emission, and efficiency features of a diesel engine. 10%, 20% and 30% decanol with diesel by volume were used in the ternary blends, while the NOME was kept constant at 20% and their properties were determined using ASTM standards. It was revealed that the brake thermal efficiency decreased for ternary fuel blends due to their inferior calorific value. The NO, smoke, and HC emissions were reduced effectively for ternary fuel blends and the maximum reductions were found to be 15.68%, 22.1% and 21.81%, respectively, for 30% decanol blend compared to diesel. Owing to its greater latent heat of vapourisation, which takes additional heat from the combustion product during combustion, further decanol addition resulted in decreased peak pressure and HRR. From the experimental findings, decanol can be a better-oxygenated additive for diesel–biodiesel combinations.
