In this study, we investigate the impact of renewable energy consumption and oil price on economic activities in Nigeria using yearly data covering 1986–2018. Linear Autoregressive Distributed Lag model and Toda and Yamamoto Granger causality test are utilised. We disaggregate economic activities into primary, secondary and tertiary sectors activities and we establish that oil price has a positive significant impact on the primary, secondary and tertiary sectors activities in the short and long run. Besides, our findings show that in the short and long run, renewable energy consumption has a positive insignificant impact on activities of the primary and tertiary sectors. Furthermore, we provide evidence of short-run negative strong association and long-run positive insignificant association between renewable energy consumption and secondary sector activities. Our results from the Granger causality test reveal unidirectional causality from oil price to the primary and secondary sectors activities.
