Cottonseed hull (CSH) is lignocellulosic biomass that is mostly composed of cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin. Cow dung (CD) has the potential to co-digest with chemically treated CSH for improving biogas production. The objective of this work is to investigate the presence of functional groups and structural morphology changes of various chemical treated CSH including acids such as H 2 SO 4 , HCl, H 2 O 2 , CH 3  COOH at the concentrations (1%, 2%, 3%) and alkaline such as NaOH, and Ca (OH) 2  at the concentrations (4%, 6%, 8%) was evaluated by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analysis during anaerobic mono- and co-digestion of CD at mesophilic condition. Discussion on the degradation of cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin availability in CSH and the structural modification of CSH, before and after anaerobic digestion is based on the spectroscopic analysis and SEM analysis respectively.
