The rise in global power requirements draws the attention towards the development and enhanced production of alternating fuel sources. Biodiesel plays a vital role in reducing dependency on diesel fuel oil. In this context, biodiesel production from  Hibiscus cannabinus  (ambadi) seeds oil and waste cooking (WCO) oil by transesterification process is reported in this study. A comprehensive experimental activity has been performed on a compression ignition engine. The different blends of WCO and ambadi seed oil (AO) biodiesel with diesel were prepared after characterisation. In the present study, the performance, combustion and emission analysis of biodiesel blends were investigated on a diesel engine with varying loads. The results illustrate that brake thermal efficiency of blend AO biodiesel–diesel (ADB20), WCO biodiesel–diesel (WCDB20) and Diesel (B100) was 32.96%, 32.50% and 33.76%, respectively. Specific fuel consumption, cumulative heat release and cylinder peak pressure for WCO and AO Biodiesel were higher than those of diesel. NOx formation was reduced while HC and CO emissions increased in the exhaust. Hence, it is concluded that ADB20 is more efficient than WCDB20 renewable energy sources.
