The microchannel heat exchangers are used in various electrical and electronics components and the transportation industry is transitioning from traditional gasoline-powered vehicles to zero-emission electric vehicles. This paper attempts to provide a detailed study on the design of microchannel heat exchangers and nanofluids to enhance the heat transfer and pressure drop characteristics. The investigation of experimental and numerical methods used to analyze various design parameters serves as a guide to carry out the research and predict the performance of microchannel heat exchangers. A complete assessment of the work on improving heat transfer in microchannel heat exchangers utilising conventional and nanofluids is also provided. Cutting-edge developments in nanofluids provide alternative fluids that are quickly established as coolants, but an increase in the concentration of nanoparticles in nanofluids will lead to pressure drop. The study revealed a 30-35% increase in heat transfer performance and a 10-12% pressure drop penalty.
