Inverters are static direct-to-alternate current converters that provide energy exchange between a source and a load. These inverters are used in all photovoltaic applications (autonomous, grid-connected, and hybrid applications). Several optimisation techniques have been applied to obtain suitable adaptation and high performance for maximising photovoltaic power generation. New control techniques, such as pulse width modulation (PWM) commands, are used to improve the quality of the output voltage of the inverter. This paper presents a comparative study of the performance of sinusoidal modulation control with vector modulation control applied to a two-level inverter. This study concludes that the vector modulation technique (space vector modulation) has a superior performance compared with the sinusoidal PWM technique in terms of the total harmonic distortion.
