Centrifugal fluidised bed with static geometry is a novel approach of fluidisation which still remains unattended as a method to reduce diesel particulate matter. The centrifugal fluidised chambers are tested on a single cylinder diesel engine to reduce diesel particulate matter. The present investigation comprises a detailed examination on the impact of chamber geometry and mass of bed particles on smoke opacity, pressure drop, and fuel consumption. The numbers of the inlet are varied from 1 to 4, inlet slot width is fixed with two values of 3 and 5 mm. Mass of Silicon carbide used as bed particles is varied up to 0.5 kg. The results inferred that, with an increase in a number of inlets and inlet slot width, the pressure drop and smoke opacity decreases. The engine found out to be fuel efficient as a number of inlet and inlet slot width increases. Experimental investigations reveal that when 3 and 4 inlet chambers were used the centrifugal fluidised bed became more stable and uniform. Hence 3 and 4 inlet chambers show the maximum chamber efficiency above 60%. As a consequence of particulate matter deposition on bed particles and accumulation at an outlet, the chamber efficiency is reduced with time.
