A Cd-based metal organic framework (Cd-MOF), {Cd 2 [H(t-4-cpp)] 2 (bibp) 2 } n , was constructed using 2,4,6-tri(4-carboxylphenyl)pyridine [H 3 (t-4-cpp)] and 4,4'-bis(imidazolyl)biphenyl (bibp) through the solvothermal method. Its structure was characterized by X-ray single-crystal diffraction. Cd-MOF crystallizes in the triclinic system,  P -1 space group and features a two-dimensional (2D) framework. The fluorescence quenching results showed that Cd-MOF can selectively and sensitively sense Fe 3+  with a detection limit of 0.993  μ M.
