The biomolecules in the clinical use being delivered by the conventional mode of delivery often exhibit poor affinity. So, there is a need for a nanomedicine-based approach that could propose a promising solution to the problems coupled with conventional drug delivery. In this context, the application of Poly (lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA) nanocarriers in drug delivery is a promising approach to achieve good biodistribution and absorption of therapeutics to the diseased site with a reduction in toxicity. This review covers various approaches to synthesize PLGA polymer, its physiochemical, biological assets, functionalized carriers for the advancement of nano delivery to the target site, and current modern approaches having the potential to deliver PLGA-based nanomedicines against a variety of diseases.
