The liquid moisture transfer property of three kinds of yarns, i.e. ring spun yarn, rotor spun yarn and vortex spun yarn and the corresponding fabrics constructed by each kind of yarns is investigated. Two-dimensional aligned-arranged yarns (namely, simulation fabric) is used to probe the effect of arrangement and surface of yarns on moisture management behavior. It is interesting to find that the moisture transfer capability of fabrics is not consistent with that of each kind of yarns forming the corresponding fabrics, but correlated with the hairiness value H of the yarns. Results also show that the hairiness and yarn arrangement are two key factors that cause the different wicking effect of the yarns and the fabrics. This work provides an insight into the moisture transport property of fabrics by comprehensively considering the structure, arrangement and surface effect of yarns.
