A simple and efficient procedure for the synthesis of  N -substituted acryl amides has been developed using Na 2 CO 3 /SiO 2  or NaHSO 4 /SiO 2 . Na 2 CO 3 /SiO 2  smoothly acts as a base in the reaction between acryloyl chloride and a variety of amines to obtain their corresponding products in good to excellent yield. Additionally, NaHSO 4 /SiO 2  catalyzed the Ritter reaction between acryl nitrile and  sec -benzylic alcohols to give the expected  N -substituted acryl amide product. In both reactions, Na 2 CO 3 /SiO 2  and NaHSO 4 /SiO 2  were removed from the reaction mixture using filtration.
