This work investigates the chemical composition and toxicity of the essential oils (EOs) extracted from clove flower buds and goat weed leaves against housefly larvae. The clove EO was oxygenised monoterpenes-dominated and Eugenol (41.49%) chemotype. The Chromene-dominated EO of goat weed was Precocene I (72.73%) chemotype. Application of 100 ppm of clove EO evoked 75.00% mortality that was significantly higher than 47.50% mortality observed in 100 ppm of goat weed EO. Maximum mortality (100.00%) was obtained when 400 ppm of clove EO was applied, but 72.50% mortality was observed when 400 ppm goat weed was applied. The results indicate that clove EO was superior to goat weed EO as toxicant against housefly larvae, which could be attributable to the variations in the chemical composition of the EOs.
