The paper investigates the mechanical properties of nanocomposites based on high-density polyethylene (PE) with nanoclay (NC) additives after exposure to an electric field and compares them with changes occurring in the structure. It has been shown that C = C groups are formed as a result of the rupture of macromolecules under the action of an electric field. Depending on the exposure time, the mechanical strength of the nanocomposite and PE decreases, while the tensile strain ( ε ) and optical density ( D ) increase. The rate of strength reduction in nanocomposite is lower than that of PE.
