The atomic dynamics and vibrational properties of YbAs 2 S 4  and YbAs 2 Se 4  compounds has been studied. The studies were carried out by infrared spectroscopy at room temperature in the frequency range  ν  = 400–2000 cm −1 . When analyzing the obtained spectra, 8 main maxima were observed. As a result of the analysis, it was found that these maxima correspond to the vibrations of the metal (As) – chalcogen (S,Se) bonds. The differences in the infrared spectra of the YbAs 2 S 4  and YbAs 2 Se 4  compounds are explained by the difference in the ionic radii of the sulfur and selenium atoms in the divalent state.
